How to Take Phenazone and it's Dose


• The external ear canal can be covered with a cotton plug moistened with the ear drops solution after putting the drops if the doctor advises the same.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

• The recommended dose of phenazone is:

Oral: 1 g every 4 to 8 hourly; maximum of 4 g in a day
As ear drops: 3 to 4 drops into the external ear canal. It should be administered three times daily for 2 to 3 days to soften the ear wax. It can be used every 1-2 hourly for the treatment of earache as needed.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Phenazone is contraindicated in the following conditions:

• Allergy to the drug
• Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
• Acute hepatic porphyria
• Pregnancy and during breastfeeding
• Children
• The ear drops should not be used in patients with a perforated ear drum or discharge from the ear
