How to Take Eluxadoline and it's Dose


Eluxadoline comes in the form of a tablet to be taken twice daily along with food.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

The recommended dose of the drug is 100mg to be taken twice daily along with food.

In case of patients with mild-to-moderate liver disease, patients who do not have a gall bladder and who are unable to tolerate 100mg of the drug, the dose of the drug is reduced to 75mg twice daily. This dose is also used in patients taking drugs like cyclosporin, gemfibrozil, anti-HIV drugs like lopinavir, saquinavir and tipranavir, and rifampin, which can increase the blood level of eluxadoline.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Eluxadoline should not be prescribed to patients who are allergic to the drug, patients with pancreatic or severe liver disease or bile duct obstruction, with the use of certain other medications or alcohol, in patients who suffer from severe constipation, or during pregnancy and breast feeding.
