How to Take Butabarbital and it's Dose


It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

Usual adult dosage- Daytime sedative - 15 to 30 mg, 3 or 4 times daily.
Bedtime hypnotic - 50 to 100 mg.
Preoperative sedative - 50 to 100 mg, 60 to 90 minutes before surgery.
Usual pediatric dosage- Preoperative sedative - 2 to 6 mg/kg maximum 100 mg.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with history of manifest or latent porphyria and hypersensitivity.
