Tablet to take by mouth, just before the first bite of each meal.

Type 2 diabetes in a dose of 25 to 100 mg three times a day
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)
Known allergy to acarbose
Severe liver disease
Intestinal conditions like inflammatory bowel disease
Severe kidney disease
Why it is prescribed (Indications)
Acarbose prevents the action of certain enzymes in the digestive tract that break down carbohydrates to release glucose, which is subsequently absorbed in the blood. Thus, it controls the rise of blood glucose level after a meal.
Category B :
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
