This medication is a sulfa agent, eliminates bacteria that cause infections, especially urinary tract infections.
Contraindicated in patients with severe kidney or liver impairment, blood disorders, hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, porphyria, infants <2 months, during pregnancy (3rd trimester) and breastfeeding.
Adult: PO- Initial: 2 gm, then 1 gm twice daily. Severe: 1 gm 3 times/day.
It comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth, on an empty stomach.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney or liver impairment, history of allergy or asthma, AIDS, G6PD deficiency, elderly, and children.
Nausea, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, hypersensitivity reactions, blood disorders, serum sickness-like syndrome, low blood sugar, intestinal inflammation, kernicterus in premature neonates.
Avoid excess dosage.
Store it at room temperature and out of direct sunlight.
