Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a depolarizing muscle relaxant, induction and maintenance of general anesthesia by relaxing muscles.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with genetic disorders of plasma enzyme abnormality, personal/family history of elevated body temperature, hypersensitivity from previous neuromuscular drug, severe burns, massive trauma, extensive denervation of skeletal muscle, patients with risk of excess plasma potassium, liver impairment, sudden eye pressure.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Muscle relaxant in general anaesthesia- Adult: IM- As chloride: 3 to 4 mg/kg. Max total dose: 150 mg.
Child: As chloride: <1 year: Up to 4 to 5 mg/kg; ≥1 year: Up to 4 mg/kg. Max dose: 150 mg.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into a large muscle.
Special Instruction : 
*Caution needed for patients with history of bone fracture, raised eye pressure, neuromuscular disease, infants, children, adolescents, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
*It should only be used in children in emergency situations.
Side Effects : 
Heart- Chest pain, fast breathing, fast or slow heartbeat pauses in breathing, pounding in the chest tightness in the chest.
Musculoskeletal- Muscle pain following surgery, muscle twitching, tightening of jaw or other muscles.
Skin- Rash, hives, itching.
Miscellaneous- Increased saliva, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, high body temperature, increased pressure in the eye.
Other Precautions : 
*Do not change the dosage with out healthcare provider's advice.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it in refrigerator (2-8°C). Do not freeze it.
