Why is Sitagliptin-Metformin Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor and biguanide combination, prescribed for type 2 diabetes along with diet and exercise.

When should Sitagliptin-Metformin not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma, kidney impairment, stroke or recent heart attack, type 1 diabetes, and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Sitagliptin-Metformin?

Adult- PO- For Native Patients- The recommended starting dose is metformin 50 mg & sitagliptin/500 mg twice daily.
The starting dose in patients already treated with metformin should provide sitagliptin dosed as 50 mg twice daily (100 mg total daily dose) and the dose of metformin already being taken.

How should Sitagliptin-Metformin be taken?

It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with food.

•Caution should be exercised in patients with history of vomiting, diarrhea, decrease in blood minerals, infection, fever, alcoholism, heart disease, lung disease, thyroid problems, gallstone, any allergy, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
