Generic Name : Simvastatin and Sitagliptin

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This combination medication contains antidiabetic and cholesterol-lowering agent, prescribed for treating type 2 diabetes and lowering high cholesterol. It works by reducing bad cholesterol level and by regulating the levels of insulin.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): Contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney problem, and pregnant and breastfeeding women.
It should not be co-administered with CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Category X : Studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities and/or there is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience, and the risks involved in use of the drug in pregnant women clearly outweigh potential benefits.

Dosage & When it is to be taken : 
The recommended starting dose is 100-mg/40 mg per day.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.
Warnings and Precautions : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of low blood pressure, kidney problems, low thyroid function, muscle problems or a family history of muscle problems, or serious metabolic, hormonal, or electrolyte problems, seizures, liver problems, or alcohol abuse, angioedema, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, children.
* Follow the diet and exercise program as directed by your physician.
Side Effects : 
Body as a Whole - Swelling, abdominal pain.
Heart - Abnormal heart rhythm.
Gastrointestinal - Constipation, stomach inflammation.
Metabolic - Diabetes mellitus.
Musculoskeletal - Muscle pain and Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM).
Central Nervous System - Headache, sleeplessness, fainting.
Respiratory - Lung inflammation.
Skin - Eczema.
Genitourinary - Urinary tract infection.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store at 20-25°C.
