Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a hormone, prescribed for secretion stimulating test in stimulation of pancreatic secretions, stimulation of gastrin secretion in order to identify gastrinoma, pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients suffering from acute pancreatitis.


When it is to be taken : 
To Stimulate Pancreatic Secretions- 0.2 mcg/kg body weight by intravenous injection over 1 minute.
To Stimulate Gastrin Secretion - 0.4 mcg/kg body weight by intravenous injection over 1 minute.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a powder (diluted with fluid) for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of inflammatory bowel disease, acute pancreatitis, liver impairment, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects : 
Heart - Low blood pressure, increased heart rate, slow heart rate.
Central Nervous System - Anxiety, faintness, sleepiness.
Skin - Clammy skin, flushing.
Gastrointestinal - Diarrhea, increased oral secretions, mild pancreatitis, nausea, upset stomach, vomiting.
Miscellaneous - Abdominal pain, burning sensation, tingling in legs, unresponsiveness, warm sensation in abdomen and face.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at 20ºC.
