Why is Rifabutin Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a bactericidal antibiotic, prescribed for mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.  It works by preventing or slowing the growth of certain bacteria.

When should Rifabutin not be taken? (Contraindications)

PO- The recommended dose is 300 mg once daily.
