Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an antineoplastic agent, prescribed for esophageal cancer, non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and dysplasia in Barrett's Esophagus.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with blood disorder porphyria, emergency breathing problem, tumors eroding into a major blood vessel and hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
The first stage of PDT is the intravenous injection at 2 mg/kg.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney or liver impairment, severe acute respiratory distress, chest pain, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause sensitivity to light. Protect your eyes and skin.
Side Effects : 
Blood - Anemia.
Heart - Abnormal heart rhythm, heart failure, fast heart rate.
Gastrointestinal - Constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, difficulty in swallowing, esophageal swelling, blood vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, eructation, blood in stool.
General - Fever, chest pain, pain, swelling in extremities, weakness.
Infections - Urinary tract infection.
Metabolic - Weight decreased, loss of appetite, dehydration.
Musculoskeletal - Back pain.
Central Nervous System - Sleeplessness, confusional state, anxiety.
Respitratory - Lung infection, difficulty in breathing, pneumonia, inflammation of pharynx, respiratory insufficiency, cough.
Skin - Photosensitivity reaction.
Heart - High or low blood pressure.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at controlled room temperature (20–25°C).
