International- Curosurf. Why it is prescribed (Indications) :
This medication is a surface-active lipoprotein, prescribed for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants. When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Contraindicated in patients with anemia, acidity, chills, low blood sugar and hypersensitivity.
Dosage & When it is to be taken :
The initial recommended dose is 2.5 mL/kg birth weight. How it should be taken :
It comes as a suspension for intratracheal administration. Warnings and Precautions :
* Frequent clinical and laboratory assessments should be given to infants while using this medication.
* Trained and experienced healthcare professionals should only administer it.
* Patient should be treated for anemia, low sugar and chills before the start of the treatment.
Side Effects :
Complication of premature babies- Slow heart rate, low blood pressure, respiratory blockage and shortness of breath.
Miscellaneous- Pneumonia, stroke, respiratory tract inflammation/infection, sepsis and congenital heart disorder.
*Avoid excess dosage. Storage Conditions :
Store it in refrigerator (2 to 8°C); Do not freeze it.
