Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an active immunization against poliomyelitis.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity and acute febrile illness.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Adult: IM- As a combination product with diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and H. influenza vaccine: 3 doses at intervals of 4 weeks. Booster doses are not necessary, except for those at special risk.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into a large muscle.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of allergies, immune system disorders, cancer, certain blood disorders, diarrhea, vomiting, fever/ illness, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* Wash your hands properly while changing the napkins for your children who are receiving this vaccine.
* Avoid contact with people who are having immunity problem.
Side Effects : 
Local- Redness, swelling and pain.
Body as Whole- Fever, loss of appetite, body aches and vomiting.
Central Nervous System- Drowsiness and fainting.
Other Precautions : 
* It may cause an increased risk of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis in immunosuppressive patients.
* Special care should be taken to ensure that the injection does not enter the blood vessel.
Storage Conditions : 
Normally handled and stored by healthcare providers.
