Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a highly potent antipsychotic compound, prescribed for chronic schizophrenia and similar psychotic disorders.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with preexisting central nervous system depression or coma.


When it is to be taken : 
Adult: PO Initial: 20-60 mg/week. Severe/resistant: ≤250 mg/week.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of epilepsy, preexisting heart diseases, decrease in potassium and magnesium level in blood, deficiency of thyroid hormone, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects : 
Central Nervous System- Epilepsy in people with low threshold for seizures, agitation, anxiety, depression and emotion.
Gastrointestinal- Constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting.
Metabolic- Weight gain, increased saliva and decrease in blood sugar.
Genitourinary- Increased risk of breast cancer, absence of menstrual cycle and retention of urine.
Respiratory- Asthma.
Liver- Jaundice.
Miscellaneous- Skin rash, low blood pressure and movement disorders.
Potentially Fatal- Blood disorder, severe heart disease and brain tumor.
Other Precautions : 
*Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature away from light.
