Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a fluoroquinolones, prescribed for the treatment of uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis in males and for gram-negative bacterial infections in gastrointestinal system and genitourinary tract.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Hypersensitivity, during pregnancy and lactation.

When it is to be taken : 
Oral: Adults - 400 mg bid 7 to 10 days taken along with food.
IV Infusion: Adults - 400mg in 100ml of 5% dextrose slow infusion over 1 hr bid.
How it should be taken : 
It comes, as a tablet to take by mouth, should be taken with food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of brain or spinal cord disease, epilepsy, kidney or liver impairment.
* Avoid exposure to sunlight; otherwise it may lead to severe sunburn.
* It should not be used in children below 12 years.
Side Effects : 
Allergic reactions- Hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
Miscellaneous- Gastric pain, nausea, vomiting, photosensitivity, muscular pain and headache.
Other Precautions : 
*Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture.
