Trade Name(s): India- Mentadem, Admenta, Axura. International- Namenda. Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor antagonist, recommended for Alzheimer's disease. It reduces abnormal activity in the brain, improve the thinking ability and help perform daily activities more easily. When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): Hypersensitivity.
Dosage & When it is to be taken : Start with 5 mg daily. Increase the dose in 5 mg increments to 5 mg twice daily. How it should be taken : This medication is available in the form of tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once or twice a day with or without food. Warnings and Precautions : *Caution needed for patients with history of asthma, seizures, kidney disease, or repeated urinary tract infections, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Side Effects : Central Nervous System- Sleepiness, dizziness, confusion and headache. Respiratory- Shortness of breath. Gastrointestinal- Constipation and vomiting. Miscellaneous- Hallucinations (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist) and extreme tiredness. *Monitor urine pH regularly. Storage Conditions : Store it at 25°C. Keep in an airtight container, keep away from children. |
