Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is an antiretroviral agent, prescribed for HIV infection (CCR5-tropic HIV-1 detectable).

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 

Contraindicated in patients with severe kidney problems, who are taking St. John's wort, and hypersensitivity.

Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.


When it is to be taken : Adult- The recommended dose is 1 300 mg tablet, two times a day.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of low blood pressure, dizziness, hepatitis B or C, liver, heart or kidney disease, who are on dialysis, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, children less than 16 years old, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, do not drive a car or operate machinery and get up slowly from bed while taking this medication.
* Avoid alcohol consumption.
* Avoid contact with people who have infections.
* Patient may develop with increased risk of cancer; consult with your doctor about this risk before taking this medication.
* It does not stop the spread of HIV to others; avoid sexual contact, sharing of needles, or injection supplies.
Side Effects : 
Most Common - Upper respiratory tract infections, cough, fever, rash, dizziness, diarrhea, fluid retention, influenza, mouth infection and sleep disorders.
Eye and ENT - Eye inflammation/infections and ear infections.
Gastrointestinal - Constipation and appetite disorders.
General - Fever and infections.
Musculoskeletal- Joint pain and muscle pain.
Central Nervous System - Dizziness, tingling, abnormal sensation, unconsciousness, nerve disease, sleep disturbance, depression and anxiety.
Genitourinary - Bladder and urethral symptoms and urinary tract infection.
Respiratory - Upper respiratory tract infection, pneumonia, cough, upper respiratory tract infection, nose block, breathing problems and sinus disorders.
Skin - Rash, itching, redness and skin cancer.
Heart - High blood pressure.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature (25°C).
