Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a somatostatin analog, prescribed for acromegaly.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
SC- The recommended dose is 90 mg, at 4-week intervals for 3 months.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider under the skin.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of gallstones, kidney or liver impairment, thyroid problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, who are taking other medications, any allergy, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may affect blood sugar level; monitor sugar level closely.
* Monitor growth hormone levels and thyroid function regularly while taking this medication.
Side Effects : 
Gastrointestinal - Diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, flatulence, vomiting and loose stools.
Musculoskeletal - Joint pain.
Miscellaneous - Headache, gallstone, injection site pain.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it in refrigerator (2°C to 8°C).
