Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, prescribed for serious bacterial infections.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 

It should not be used in long-term treatment. Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity.

Category D : There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : Adult- IM/IV- The recommended dose is 500mg to 1gm per day in divided doses.
How it should be taken : It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein or muscle.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of dehydration, brain nerve damage, myasthenia gravis, Parkinson disease, kidney failure, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* It may lead to dehydration; drink plenty of fluid.
Side Effects : 
Severe Effects - Ear damage, kidney damage and paralysis.
General - Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, pain, redness or swelling at the injection site.
Other Precautions : 
* Extreme caution needed for newborns.
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature (15° to 30°C).
