International- Ixempra. This medication is prescribed for breast cancer either alone or in combination with capecitabine. It is a microtubule inhibitor. It kills cancer cells. When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
When it is to be taken : The recommended dose in 40mg/m2 given as an intravenous infusion over 3 hours. It can be repeated after 3 weeks. The dosage may be altered depending on the patient's body surface area, other diseases or medications that the patient takes. How it should be taken : It comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein. It is usually given once every 3 weeks. Special Instruction : *Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while using this medication. *It may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. *Monitor complete blood counts and liver function, may be performed while taking this medication. *Caution needed for patients with history of diabetes; any condition that causes numbness, burning or tingling in your hands or feet; or heart disease. Side Effects : Central Nervous System- Confusion, difficulty in sleeping, dizziness and headache. Gastrointestinal- Vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. Skin- Hair loss, numbness or burning, hives and rash. Miscellaneous- Weight loss, watery eyes, difficulty tasting food, tiredness, faintness, chills, cough, sudden swelling and chest pain. * While taking this medication, use effective contraceptives to avoid pregnancy Storage Conditions : Normally handled and stored by healthcare providers. |
