Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a calcium channel blocker, used to treat high blood pressure. It relaxes your blood vessels; thus it reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. This medication is also effective in treating Raynaud’s disease.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Allergic to the drug or components of the product.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
PO- The recommended dose is 2.5 to 10 mg/day in 2 divided doses (max dose 20 mg/day).
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a capsule and tablet to take by mouth.
Special Instruction : 
*It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or lightheadedness. Do not drive a car or operate machines while taking this medication.
*Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart, liver or kidney disease or history of gastrointestinal obstruction, children, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects : 
Most Common- Headache, dizziness or lightheadedness, flushing, constipation, fatigue, abdominal discomfort and rash.
Skin- Itching, hives and severe allergic reactions.
Musculoskeletal- Body aches, pain and cramps of legs/feet.
Respiratory- Difficulty in breathing, nasal congestion and cough.
Heart- Nosebleed, fast heart rate, chest pain, shortness of breath, low blood pressure, fainting, heart attack, heart failure and swelling of feet.
Gastrointestinal- Constipation, diarrhea, vomiting and increased or decreased appetite.
Genitourinary- Frequent urination, impotence, painful urination.
Central Nervous System- Drowsiness, sleeplessness, lethargy, nervousness, decreases in sexual activities, impotence, depression, numbness and tingling, transient ischemic attack and stroke.
Eye and ENT- Dry mouth and visual disturbances.
Miscellaneous- Weight gain/loss, fever, decrease in white blood cell, excessive sweating and liver dysfunction.
Other Precautions : 
*Take full course of the medication.
Storage Conditions : 
Keep this medication in airtight container, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature.
