Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is an antiviral agent, prescribed for certain eye infections.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 

Hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 0.5% ophthalmic ointment: The recommended dosage is every 4 hours during day and once before bedtime.
As 0.1% solution: Instill 1 drop hourly. 4 times/day, continue treatment for at least 7 days.
How it should be taken : It comes as eye drops to instill into the affected eyes.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of other eye problems, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* Avoid long-term use.
Side Effects : 
Eye - Irritation, inflammation of the eye or eyelids, pain, sensitivity to light, itching and eye swelling.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it in the refrigerator but do not freeze.
