This medication is an antiviral agent, prescribed for certain eye infections. It prevents the reproduction of the herpes simplex virus.
0.5% ophthalmic ointment: The recommended dosage is every 4 hours during day and once before bedtime.
As 0.1% solution: Instill 1 drop hourly. 4 times/day, continue treatment for at least 7 days.
It comes as eye drops to instill into the affected eyes.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of other eye problems, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Avoid long-term use.
• Eye : Irritation, inflammation of the eye or eyelids, pain, sensitivity to light, itching and eye swelling.
Avoid excess dosage.
