Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a combination of antihistamine and narcotic cough suppressant, prescribed for relief of cough and respiratory symptoms due to allergy or cold.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in children less than 6 years and hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Adults: 1 teaspoonful (5 mL) every 12 hours; do not exceed 2 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours.
Children 6-12: 1/2 teaspoonful every 12 hours; do not exceed 1 teaspoonful in 24 hours.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a capsule and suspension to take by mouth, with food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of brain tumor, head injury, increased eye pressure, heart, liver or kidney disease, urinary disorders, gastrointestinal problems, thyroid deficiency, asthma, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* It may cause dry eyes and vision problems in patients who are using contact lenses; to avoid this problem use lubricating drops.
Side Effects : 
Gastrointestinal - Nausea, vomiting and constipation.
General - Death.
Central Nervous System - Sedation, drowsiness, mental disturbance, anxiety, fear, dizziness and mood changes.
Genitourinary- Urethral spasm and urinary retention.
Respiratory- Dryness of the pharynx, tightness of the chest and respiratory depression.
Skin- Rash and itching.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid long-term use of this medication.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature (15 - 30°C), keep away from heat and sunlight.
