Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic agent, prescribed for type 2 diabetes.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma, and hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Adult- PO- Initial- The recommended starting dose is 1-2 mg once daily, with food. Maximum: 2mg/day.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver and kidney disease, ketoacidosis, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision or lightheadedness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* Avoid alcohol consumption.
Side Effects : 
Most Common - Low blood sugar, temporary visual impairment and GI disturbances.
Miscellaneous - Dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea/vomiting, lightheadedness, confusion and irritability.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container.
