Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an antibiotic, used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Gentamicin Sterile Ophthalmic Solution: Instill one or two drops into the affected eye every 4 hours.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as eye drops and ointment to instill into the affected eyes as directed by your physician.
Special Instruction : 
*It may cause blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
*It may cause harm if it is swallowed.
*Avoid long-term use of this medication; otherwise it may cause secondary infection.
*Caution should be exercised in patients with history of any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects : 
Irritated, burning, or stinging eyes.
Other Precautions : 
*The infection can be spread to another person if you accidentally contaminate the medication.
Storage Conditions : 
Keep this medication out of the reach of children and away from heat.
