Why is Fludarabine Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is prescribed for blood cancer(white blood cells) in adults who have already been treated with at least one other medication and have not got better. It is a purine analog. It slows or stops the growth of cancer cells in the body.

When should Fludarabine not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with kidney impairment, abnormal breakdown of red blood cells, elderly, pregnancy and lactation.

What is the dosage of Fludarabine?

The recommended dose is 25 mg/ m 2 administered intravenously or 40 mg/m 2 orally over a period of approximately 30 minutes, daily for 5 days every 28 days.

How should Fludarabine be taken?

This medication is available in the form of injection to be injected over 30 minutes intravenously (into the vein) by healthcare providers. It is 28 days cycle with once a day for 5 days in a row may be taken with or without food. Advised to take wholly.

What are the warnings and precautions for Fludarabine?

Heart- Chest pain and irregular heart beat.
Respiratory-Difficulty in breathing, pneumonia and severe lung toxicity.
Skin- Hair loss, rash, hives and peeling skin.
Miscellaneous- Fever, chills, cough and difficulty in swallowing.
