Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an essential body mineral, used to treat iron deficiency anemia. It replaces iron in the body when the body does not produce enough on its own.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients who have experienced with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (hemoglobin in the urine, especially observed in the morning as dark colored urine), accumulation of iron, and excess iron in the body.

Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.


When it is to be taken : 
Iron Deficiency Anemia, Chronic Renal Failure, And Pregnancy/Lactation-Oral: Adult: Each tab contains ferrous fumurate 325 mg and folic acid 0.35 mg.
Premature neonates: 2 to 4 mg elemental iron/kg/day divided every 12 to 24 hours (maximum daily dose = 15 mg).
Infants and children <12 years: Prophylaxis: 1 to 2 mg elemental iron/kg/day (maximum 15 mg) in 1 to 2 divided doses.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth with or without food.
Special Instruction : 
*Avoid use in patients with active peptic ulcer, repeated blood transfusion, regional enteritis and intestinal ulcer.
*Caution needed in patients with folic acid-dependent tumors.
*Do not take this medication for more than 6 months without checking with your doctor.
Side Effects : 
GI discomfort, heart burn, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea. Stool darkening or bloody stool may occur.
Other Precautions : 
*Avoid large dose of vitamins while taking this medication.
Storage Conditions : 
Oral: Store at (25°C). Store it at room temperature and in airtight container.
