India- Famirax, Famtrex, Microvir, Penvir, Virovir. International- Famvir. This medication is an antiviral agent, prescribed for herpes zoster(shingles). It is also used to treat recurring cold sores and to treat or suppress recurring genital herpes. When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
When it is to be taken : The dose and length of treatment depends on patient's condition. The recommended dose range is 125mg to 1.5gm/day in divided doses. How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food. Special Instruction : * Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney disease and pregnancy. Side Effects : Headache, diarrhea, nausea, confusion, fever vomiting, abdominal pain and dizziness. * Avoid excess dosage. Storage Conditions : Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container, keep away from children. |
