Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), prescribed for HIV/AIDS. This medication inhibits the growth and multiplication of human immunodeficiency virus.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Hypersensitivity.

Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.


When it is to be taken : 
The recommended oral dose is 200 mg (two 100 mg tablets) taken twice daily.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history kidney, liver problems, hepatitis, sugar, high blood cholesterol, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* It may cause redistribution or accumulation of fat in certain body parts; if it is so consult with your doctor.
* It does not stop the spread of HIV to others; avoid sexual contact, sharing of needles or injection supplies.
* It may cause serious, potentially life-threatening, and fatal skin reactions with the following symptoms: red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe rash, fever, mouth sores, red and irritated eyes, etc. If it is so consult with your doctor.
* Monitor liver function, CD4 count, complete blood cell counts, and blood cholesterol regularly while taking this medication.
Side Effects : 
Most Common- Nausea and rash.
Gastrointestinal - Diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, stomach inflammation, constipation, dry mouth and mouth ulcer.
General - Fatigue and sluggishness.
Central Nervous System - Peripheral neuropathy, headache, tingling, drowsiness, epilepsy, fainting, memory loss, nervousness, sleep disorders, abnormal dreams, confusion, disorientation and tremor.
Heart- High blood pressure, chest pain and heart attack.
Eye and ENT - Vertigo and blurred vision.
Blood- Anemia.
Liver- Liver inflammation and liver enlargement.
Metabolic- Increased blood sugar, loss of appetite and increased level of blood cholesterol.
Genitourinary- Kidney failure and breast enlargement in males.
Respiratory- Asthma and difficulty in breathing.
Skin- Night sweats, itching, dry skin and swelling of face.
Other Precautions : 
*Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature (25°C), and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.
