Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is vitamin D, prescribed for hypoparathyroidism, and refractory rickets.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, malabsorption syndrome, and hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Rickets- 12,000 to 500,000 USP units daily.
Hypoparathyroidism- 50,000 to 200,000 USP units daily.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney or liver disease, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
Side Effects : 
Genitourinary - Impairment of kidney function with frequent urination, night time urination, increased thirst.
Central Nervous System - Mental retardation.
Soft Tissues - Widespread calcification of the soft tissues, including the heart, blood vessels, kidney, and lungs.
Musculoskeletal - Bone demineralization, nerve pain, stiffness, and weakness.
Gastrointestinal - Nausea, loss of appetite and constipation.
Metabolic - Mild acidosis, anemia and weight loss.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at controlled room temperature 15°-30°C.

respected sir my daughter is 2 years old she have rickets so i want to know which medicine should i give her i am from pakistan and i am mother of two kids my elder son is well but daughter is very weak so please reply me soon i'll be thankful to you
