International- Ethrane. This medication is a structural isomer of isoflurane, prescribed for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
When it is to be taken : Induction and maintenance of general anesthesia- Adult: Induction- 0.4% v/v in air, O2 or nitrous oxide-oxygen mixtures, increase by increments of 0.5% v/v every few breaths to a max of 4.5%. Maintenance: 0.5-3% v/v. do not exceed 3% v/v during spontaneous respiration. How it should be taken : It comes as a solution for inhalation, to be administered by a trained anesthesia professional. Special Instruction : * Patient may develop with increased risk of abnormal heart rate/rhythm, monitor patient condition carefully during and after the treatment. * Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart, lungs, liver or kidney impairment; elderly, obesity, epilepsy, during pregnancy and lactation. * It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Side Effects : Most Common- High body temperature, hallucinations, abnormal heart rhythm, fainting or lightheadedness, dizziness and drowsiness. Miscellaneous- Headache, nausea, vomiting, shivering, difficulty in breathing and yellowing of eyes or skin. * Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. * It may cause mental or mood changes, if it so consult with your doctor. Storage Conditions : Store it room temperature (5º-30ºC). |
