International- Eltrombopag. This medication is a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist, prescribed for treating low platelet counts in patients with chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
When it is to be taken : Adults- PO- The recommended initial dose is 50 mg once daily. How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Special Instruction : * Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver or kidney impairment, cataracts, other bleeding problems, or bone marrow depression, recent surgery, blood clots, who are taking other medications, any allergy, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. * Monitor liver function, complete blood cell counts, peripheral blood smears, and eye exams regularly while taking this medication. * Patient may experience with low platelet counts if they stop taking this medication; avoid injury or bruising. Side Effects : Most Common - Back pain, diarrhea, indigestion, menstrual changes, mild flu like symptoms, headache, tiredness, sore throat, minor muscle aches or pain, nausea, stuffy nose, sneezing and vomiting. * Avoid excess dosage. Storage Conditions : Store at 25°C. |
