Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a cannabinoid, prescribed for nausea and vomiting due to cancer and chemotherapy and for anorexia (loss of appetite) in HIV patients.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Oral: The recommended initial dose is 2.5mg twice daily. Maximum: 20mg/day in divided doses.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of high blood pressure, heart, liver or kidney disease, epilepsy, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, lightheadedness, do not drive a car or operate machinery, and get up slowly from bed while taking this medication.
* Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication.
Side Effects : 
Body as a whole- Weakness, chills, headache and uneasiness.
Heart- Palpitations, fast heart rate, dilatation of blood vessels, facial redness and low blood pressure.
Gastrointestinal- Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fecal incontinence, loss of appetite and liver enzyme elevation.
Central Nervous system- Memory loss, anxiety/nervousness, unsteadiness, confusion, depersonalization, dizziness, euphoria, hallucination, stress, drowsiness, thinking abnormal, depression, nightmares, speech difficulties and ringing in the ear.
Musculoskeletal- Muscle pain.
Skin- Flushing and sweating.
Eye- Vision difficulties.
Respiratory- Cough and inflammation of nose/sinus.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
* It may cause mental or mood changes, if it so stop the medication.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at cool temperature (8° and 15°C) and alternatively could be stored in a refrigerator. Protect from freezing.
