International- Cosopt.
Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is prescribed for controlling eye pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or glaucoma. It is a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It decreases the production of natural fluids in the eye.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with severe kidney impairment, hypersensitivity, hyperchloraemic acidosis, and lactation.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Eye- Open-angle glaucoma- As 2% solution: Instill 1 drop 3 times/day.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as eye drops to instill into the affected eyes. It is usually applied twice a day.
Special Instruction : 
* If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying dorzolamide and put them back in 15 minutes later.
*Caution needed for patients with history of asthma, lung disease (including chronic bronchitis and emphysema), heart disease, diabetes, an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), severe allergic reactions, myasthenia gravis, and kidney or liver disease.
*It may cause risk of choroidal detachment (vascular layer containing connective tissue) when used after certain eye surgeries, liver damage.
Side Effects : 
Allergic Reactions- Rash, hives, itching, difficulty in breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
Eye- Dry eyes, eyelid discomfort, feeling that something is in your eye, blurred vision, vision changes, increased tear production, minor burning, itching, or stinging of the eye.
Heart- Chest pain, slow or irregular heartbeat.
Central Nervous System- Unusual tiredness or weakness, headache, dizziness, confusion.
Miscellaneous- Taste changes, fever, chills, shortness of breath, muscle weakness kidney stones.
Other Precautions : 
*If more than 1 topical ophthalmic product is to be used, separate the instillation times by at least 5 min.
Storage Conditions : 
Ophthalmic: Store at 15-30°C. Store it in airtight container and keep away from children.
