This medication is a proton pump inhibitor, prescribed for esophagitis and heartburn due to gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). It decreases the amount of stomach acid.
Heartburn- The recommended dose is 30 mg once daily for four weeks.
Esophagitis- The recommended dose is 60 mg once daily up to 8 weeks.
It comes as a capsule to take by mouth either with food or on an empty stomach.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver disease, kidney disease, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Avoid long-term use of this medication; otherwise it may lead to osteoporosis with symptoms of fractures in hip, wrist or spine.
• ♦Before using this medicine, consult your doctor if you are taking methotrexate.
• Most common:
Diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, common cold, vomiting and gas.
Avoid excess dosage.
Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture, and in an airtight container.
