This medication is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, prescribed for heartburn and peptic ulcers. It reduces the amount of acid production in the stomach.
PO- The recommended dose is 800mg at bedtime orally; maintenance- 400mg at bed time.
It comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth, with food.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney or liver impairment, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Gastrointestinal :
• Central Nervous System : Headache, dizziness, drowsiness and mental confusion.
• Miscellaneous : Muscle pain, skin rash and breast enlargement in male.
Avoid excess dosage.
