This medication is a mucolytic agent, prescribed for reduction of sputum viscosity. It reduces the thickness of sputum and make easier to cough up.

When should Carbocisteine not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with active ulcer.

What is the dosage of Carbocisteine?

PO- Initial: The recommended dose is 750 mg 3 times/day, then 1.5 g/day in divided doses.

It comes as a capsule and syrup to take by mouth, with food.
