Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a metabolic agent, prescribed for homocystinuria. It helps in the metabolism of homocysteine.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 
Hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Dosage & When it is to be taken : 
Adult- PO- The recommended dose is 6gms/day in divided doses.
Child- Less than 3 years old- The recommended dose is 100 mg/kg/day twice daily.
How it should be taken : 
It comes as a powder to be mixed with food or drink and take by mouth at bedtime.
Warnings and Precautions : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) deficiency, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects : 
Most Common - Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and bad taste.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature (15 – 30°C). Protect from moisture.
