Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is a vitamin, prescribed for scurvy.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 

Hypersensitivity.

Pregnancy Category :

Category A : Adequate and well-controlled human studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters).


When it is to be taken : Adult: PO Scurvy Prevention: 25-75 mg/day; treatment: ≥250 mg/day. Thalassaemia W/ desferrioxamine: 100-200 mg/day.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.
Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of diabetes, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, high iron level in the blood, anemia, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Side Effects : 
Gastrointestinal - Diarrhea, nausea, stomach upset and vomiting.
Genitourinary - Crystals in urine.
Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.
* Patient may develop with kidney stones.
Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container.
