Sibutramine

Generic Name : Sibutramine


Pronunciation : si-bee-tru-amine

TradeName : obirax, obestat, sibutrex, obego, sibutrim, slenfig


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Sibutramine Hcl monohydrate is an antiobese drug which acts by blocking the uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in central nervous system.


When it is to be taken : Take this medication orally as directed by physician.Start initially with 10 mgs once daily with or without food.If there is a inadequate weight lopss the dose may be titrated after 4 weeks to a total of 15mg once daily.The 5 mg dose should be reserved for patients who do not tolerate the 10mg dose.Doses above 15 mg daily is not recommenced.


How it should be taken : It comes as 5 aqnd 10 mg tablets.


Special Instruction : 


Side Effects : 
Dry mouth,anorexia,constipation,insomnia,dizziness.Abnormal liver function test with increase in AST,ALT,GGT,LDH and bilirubin is also noticed.


Other Precautions : 
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.May be used in elderly patients.


Storage Conditions : 
Store at room temperature in a tight container.

I had been taking Obirax for past 4 motnhs. i lost some wt but after I stopped I seem to gain 3 kgswt for the past 3 weeks. Pl prescribe the correct dosage and usage of this drug. My wt is 65 and my ht is 5'3".

how many days i can take obirax-10.after losing 6 kg i have stopped it for 2 months. can i start taking it again? or should i increase my dose by taking obirax-15

hi i have been taking obirax 10 since 1 year ,i lost abot 7 kgs.but once i stopped taking obirax i put on 12 kgs .what shall i do.

Hae All!!!! I am taking Obirax-10 for past 20 days. I had a great change in my weignt. I have reduced 4 kg in 20 days. I am in diet and doing 30 min walking. Very happy

I've been prescribed Slenfig but now I've noticed on the box that it's encased in hard gelatin capsule. My concern now is the gelatin, I need to know if it's animal base which I then cannot consume for religious reasons. Apprec any clarification. Thanks.
