Susceptibility testing, Bacteria |
| Indication |
To determine antimicrobial susceptibilityof organisms involved in infectious processes when the susceptibility of the organism cannot be predicted from its identity.
|
| Physiology |
Effective antimicrobial therapy is usually selected with intent to achieve a peak level two to four times the MIC at the site of infection. These susceptibility assays have been standardized for use in clinical laboratories by the National Committtee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS).
|
| Normal Range |
Reported as Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Results may be susceptible (S), Intermediate (I), Resistant
