Orchidopexy or orchiopexy is the term used for surgical correction for an undescended testis in a male child. Normally the testis lies in the scrotum at birth but due to congenital anomaly in some children, it remains at a higher location. In the scrotum, the temperature of the testis remains at least 2 degrees below the normal body temperature and this is the optimal temperature for sperm production. At a higher location, the temperature is harmful for the normal functioning of the testis. Here is a slide animation to understand the surgical procedure called orchidopexy.
