Gastric bypass or Roux-en Y is a Bariatric surgery that can be done by laparoscopy to treat severe or morbid obesity. The surgery reduces the size of the stomach and creates a bypass using a small segment of intestine that connects the reduced stomach to a distal section of small intestine. The surgical procedure not only gives a feeling of fullness but also limits the absorption of food. This helps in rapid weight reduction.
