Anosmia is the absence or impairment of the sense of smell. 7% of the people in India suffer from impaired sense of smell. It can be partial or complete.

I lost my sense of smell, and hence taste as well, after a collision in a hockey game about three months ago. At first I had difficulty in believing there was any link between the collision and my newfound anosmia but after reading that others have suffered the same fate as a result of falls and other injuries I have to consider to obvious. I caught a nasty cold back in Feb of 2008 and haven't been able to smell or taste anything, the smell I do have is a musty moldy smell. My ears feel full of fluid constantly.

For Michael T New Haven, I too have lost my sense of smell. I lost it three years ago when I slipped and fell on black top that was wet. The nerves that connect the olfactory bulb to the brain I learned has been severed therefore I will not be able to smell or taste the rest of my life. I have severe Sinus problem. Took all kinds of OTC medicine ..none helped. I went to see an ent specialist who said I have a deviated septem and he could operate to straighten it and also said my sinus had got very severe. Did the Surgery but after one year same problems started. Thought I had Allergies but even the Allergy medicines didn;t help.
